Refugee children from Odessa in the port of Istanbul
Library of congress USA, American National Red Cross photograph collection
Fleeing from the Bolsheviks, from Odessa to Istanbul on the rescue ship of the American Red Cross, not only the White Guards, private business and noble girls, but also homeless children, who appear in a myriad of numbers due to the Civil War on the territory of the former Russian Empire. Most of these children would never return to their homeland, or if they did, they return with Romanian or German troops in 1941.
