In Soviet times, from 1946 to 1991, Cathedral Square was called the Soviet Army. The cathedral itself was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936. In its place, a flower bed with a second fountain was smashed. «Filatov's Cup» from the fountain on the site of the destroyed cathedral is now located on the site of the very first (old) fountain.
