In 1951, on the site of the Cathedral Church destroyed in 1936, the Bolsheviks erected a monument to a friend and comrade of everything that moves and breathes, Comrade Stalin. In those years, Cathedral Square was called the Soviet Army Square.

In two years, Stalin will go to the Kremlin wall through the Mausoleum, but for now, on the site of the former temple, a stone generalissimo sits in a wicker stone chair-throne. At the base of the sculpture, a working landscape model of the cascade of hydroelectric power stations and canals on the Volga and Don under construction at that time was arranged. Water flowed along the mini-rivers, filled the reservoirs and overflowed with a murmur over the dams. Nearby were the stations themselves and power poles. River gutters painted blue, green grass, white dams and an inscription of flowers at the foot of the monument: "Glory to the Great Stalin." The very same "throne" under Comrade Stalin was red.
The monument and the composition lasted a little more than eight years, and during the Khrushchev thaw, in 1961, they were replaced with an ordinary flower bed.
