Perished: 16 / Wounded: 32
On 6 September, the Russians attacked the market in the centre of Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, at a time when many civilians were present. 16 people died and 32 were wounded. Shortly after the explosion, the Ukrainian media, citing the military, reported that the attack had been carried out using the S-300 system (this missile launcher is normally used for air defence, but during the Russian invasion of Ukraine the Russian army converted it to attack ground targets). However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later said that Konstantinovka had been hit by Russian artillery, although it could have been an air strike. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which spread over an area of about 300 square metres, and damaged about 30 trade pavilions. The shelling of Konstantinovka was the deadliest Russian attack on Ukrainian territory in recent months, and one of many that have resulted in civilian deaths.
